AI for accounting and tax firms
AI for Accounting and tax firms
Busy season is a document problem first and a staffing problem second.
The problem, specifically
An accounting firm spends a large share of the year receiving paper. W-2s, 1099s, bank statements, receipts, invoices, prior-year returns and organizers arrive as photos, scans and email attachments, rarely complete and rarely labeled. Someone has to identify, rename, sort and key it in before real work starts.
The phone gets heavier at the worst moment. Clients ask whether their documents arrived, what is still missing and when the return will be done, and each call interrupts someone who is mid-return.
Client financials and tax identification numbers are exactly what a firm should not be pasting into a consumer AI tool.
What we deploy
Felican IDP
Identifies document types and extracts the fields that matter from tax forms, statements and invoices into structured data. Low-confidence values are flagged for a preparer instead of being written in silently.
Voice AI
Answers the routine calls: documents received, appointment scheduling, office hours and what to bring. It does not give tax advice or state a refund amount.
Private AI
Searches the firm's own workpapers, memos and research notes in plain language, inside your own environment.
What makes this different in your trade
Document intake is the first thing to fix
Sorting and extraction is repetitive, error-prone for people and well suited to software with a review step. It is usually where a firm sees the time come back first.
A preparer reviews, always
The AI prepares data and flags doubts. A qualified person prepares and signs the return, and nothing in the workflow removes that.
Where is my return is a routine question
Status calls can be answered from your own tracking, with an honest answer when something is still outstanding.
Client identifiers stay inside the firm
Taxpayer identification numbers and account details are handled in your own environment, with access limited by role and every retrieval logged.
Questions people actually ask
Before you call
Does it give tax advice?
No. It handles documents, status and scheduling. Advice stays with the firm's professionals.
How accurate is the extraction?
Accuracy varies with document quality, so we do not quote a figure. What we do is flag low-confidence fields and keep the source image next to the extracted value so checking is quick.
Can it work with our tax software?
Often through exports or custom integrations, depending on what the software allows. We will tell you before we start if a connection is not practical.
